The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) has officially handed over the Makafu Grid Intensification Project to Monument Oak Investments Limited. The handover signals commencement of construction works for the much-anticipated electrification project, aimed at providing reliable power to the rural community.
The project scope involves the extension of an 11kV Overhead Line by 4.3km, the establishment of a distribution network spanning 3.8km and the installation of two transformers – one with a 50kVA capacity and another with 100kVA capacity. These developments are designed to ensure that more homes, businesses, and community centers within the Makafu area can access electricity, contributing to local socio-economic growth.
The handover ceremony took place at Makafu Primary School, with key stakeholders in attendance, including representatives from ZESCO, the Ward Development Committee, local leadership, and members of the Makafu community. Their presence demonstrated a collective commitment to advancing rural electrification and improving the quality of life in the area.
REA continues to play a pivotal role in bringing sustainable energy to rural communities, with the Makafu Grid Intensification Project standing as a testament to its ongoing efforts. Once completed, this project will foster greater access to energy, stimulate economic activity, and enhance community services such as education and healthcare.
