Promoting Female Led Businesses in the energy sector workshop kicks off

The Rural Electrification Authority (REA), Power Africa and USAID funded Empower Southern Africa (ESA) Program are hosting a two-day workshop aimed at promoting female led businesses in the energy sector in Lusaka.

The event focuses on increasing female participation in the male-dominated energy industry and has placed special emphasis on participation of women-led businesses from all ten provinces in the country. Addressing stakeholders in attendance from various sectors, including the business organisations, Government, Non-Governmental Organisations, and civil society, REA’s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Linus Chanda, highlighted the importance of this initiative.

“This workshop is not just about technical training. It’s about building economic empowerment and social advancement of women, which are key to sustainable development in the energy sector” Eng Chanda said.

The workshop is aimed at training 62 women is building capacity in critical areas such as financial management, tender procedures, and the value-addition benefits within the energy industry. Participants, many of whom are entrepreneurs heading cooperatives, start-ups, and established businesses, engaged in sessions designed to sharpen their business acumen.

By prioritizing diversity, mentorship, and inclusion, REA and ESA are motivating change to ensure that women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s energy landscape.
